You need to have enough time because some websites may require you to fill information about your yourself and may provide you with long and detailed forms to fill.
It is important to get job offer for you to apply for work permit and in some countries you may need may get a VISA after you provide the proof of job offer that you have. So, the first step for you to get permit for the country you want to go is to have the job offer / student permit if you want to go to study/other forms of permit if you have any other reasons such as business visit or medical treatment.
